Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals Practice

Skott/Edwards Consultants has been involved with the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry since the firm was formed in 1974. Our practice has changed over the years as the industry has changed, grown and adapted. In the 1970's we worked in areas including bioseparations, pharmaceuticals and in the initial formation of the immunodiagnostics industry. In the early 1980's, we worked in the emerging wave of venture capital funded biotechnology startups, recruiting key executives to industry pioneers like Hybritech and Xoma Corporation and participated in the expansion and transition of the industry from diagnostics to therapeutics. As the biotech industry expanded through the mid and later 1980's to the current time, our activities have involved work in:

  • conventional therapeutic proteins
  • ag-biotech
  • advanced vaccines
  • drug delivery
  • artificial organs
  • small molecule therapeutics
  • rational drug design
  • wound care
  • blood substitutes
  • implants
  • advanced separations and sequencing
  • combinatorial chemistry and other advanced medicinal chemistry technologies
  • cell therapy and similar high-science service businesses
  • growth factors
  • advanced imaging
  • in vitro and in vivo diagnostics of all types
  • gene therapy
  • advanced reagents
  • signal transduction and transcription control
  • many other speciality fields including bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics and related leading-edge technologies

Our success in this sector has flowed from our willingness and ability to learn the technology, our understanding of the dynamic process of growing a technology driven health care business and our grasp of the unique challenges of turning good science into good business.
